The Accusation and the Mirror
In every new financial era, the old guard shouts the same thing: It’s not real. It’s criminal. It’s a scam.
In crypto, that accusation reached its peak with a now-iconic phrase: “It’s just money laundering.” It wasn’t analysis — it was dismissal. A refusal to understand wrapped in moral superiority.
This work captures that tension — between genuine use and institutional disbelief. Between frontier systems and legacy frameworks that can’t, or won’t, interpret them.
Sometimes, the accusation is projection. What the state calls laundering, the chain calls sovereignty.
This piece doesn’t deny the charge — it reframes it. Yes, crypto moves money outside traditional channels. That’s the point. Yes, it can be used anonymously. That’s the feature.
Every system launders something. Fiat launders power. Bureaucracy launders blame. Crypto launders control — back to the individual.
