Plain Window / Plain Mirror

Without text, the work returns the aircraft window to its most essential function: a frame for looking. In the Stratosphere series, language often acts as a system of command, clearance, measurement, or identification. Here, that system falls away. What remains is the aperture itself: the shape through which altitude, distance, weather, and light are transformed into an image.

As a sky painting, the work becomes a pure atmospheric field. The window format gives the painted sky a specific origin. This is not a general landscape or abstract gradient, but a view associated with flight: pressurized, elevated, detached from the ground. The absence of language allows the surface to hold quiet, uninterrupted attention. It asks the viewer to consider the window not as a background for text, but as the central object of experience.

As a mirror, the work changes completely. The blank aircraft window no longer opens onto sky. It reflects the viewer back into the shape of flight. The person standing before it becomes the view. In this form, the mirror turns the promise of aviation inward: access, distance, privacy, aspiration, escape, and return are no longer written on the surface. They are carried by the reflection itself.

In both versions, the absence of text creates a pause within the series. After so much technical, cultural, and emotional language, the plain window becomes a reset. It is cleared.

Edition
Unique work, mounted to float on a shaped panel finished in automotive paint. Signed and dated on an affixed label. Accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity and embedded RFID authentication chip.

Materials
Automotive paint, acrylic, polymer  and varnish on sealed engineered wood fiber panels. Executed with proprietary airbrush and silkscreen techniques.
