BAGGAGE refers to the luggage, personal effects, and cargo carried in the aircraft’s baggage compartment or hold. It is a routine but important part of flight operations. Every bag has weight, and that weight affects loading, balance, fuel burn, and performance. In private aviation, baggage handling is more direct and discreet than in commercial travel, but the principle is the same: what is carried must be accounted for. The word belongs equally to logistics and to the physical realities of flight.

From an aviation perspective, BAGGAGE is interesting because it introduces weight into an experience that often presents itself as seamless and frictionless. Business aviation is associated with ease, speed, and insulation from the ordinary inconveniences of travel, yet even here the aircraft remains governed by mass, distribution, and limits. Bags are part of the aircraft’s calculation. The term quietly reminds us that flight, however refined, is still bound to physics.

Art historically, the work is compelling because the word arrives with a double meaning already intact. It refers at once to literal luggage and to emotional, psychological, or historical weight. The work does not need to force that ambiguity. It is already there. On a mirror, BAGGAGE becomes direct and personal. The viewer sees themselves reflected inside the term, and the question of what one carries becomes difficult to avoid. On a sky painting or gradient, the word works differently. The openness and lightness of the atmosphere are set against the idea of burden, making the image less about escape than about what remains attached to us, even at altitude.

Automotive paint, acrylic, polymer  and varnish on mirror, mounted with sealed engineered wood fiber panels. Executed with proprietary airbrush and silkscreen techniques.
